Bridging Now to Next: National Reconciliation Week 2025
27/05/2025Thinking about applying for the Williamson Community Leadership Program (WCLP)? We know that a 10-month immersive program with a reputation like ‘Williamson’ can be exciting. However, we also know that with the decision, there are many aspects to consider. Time, effort, investment and “am I ready?”. To help with your thinking, here are some of the most frequently asked questions we hear from potential applicants:
FAQs – Is WCLP right for me?
Q: The cost is a barrier for me. Is there support available?
A: We encourage you to talk to your organisation about supporting you, at least in part, as they will benefit hugely from your leadership growth. If you're unsure how to approach that conversation, we can help with a template or advice. If you are self-funding, there is an option to pay via a flexible payment plan, and remember - the whole fee is tax-deductible. A small number of full and partial scholarships are also available for eligible candidates. Here is more about the scholarships criteria.
Q: I’m not sure I’m senior enough or the ‘right’ kind of leader. Should I still apply?
A: Imposter syndrome isn’t a sign you shouldn’t apply, it’s often a sign you should. WCLP brings together people with a wide range of leadership experience, some have formal roles, others lead in community, systems or by influence. You don’t need to tick a certain box of the ‘perfect leader’. If you’re working through complexity, making change, and open to expanding your world-view, this program is for you.
Q: I’ve looked through the program schedule, but how much is expected outside of program days?
A: WCLP is immersive, but designed for people with full-time roles and busy lives. Outside of program days, you can expect some light reading, reflection activities, and self-organised projects in collaboration with your cohort. There are no essays, exams or late-night assignments.
Q: I’m from a business or corporate background. Is this program relevant for me?
A: Absolutely! WCLP is designed to challenge and connect leaders across sectors - business, government, community, academia, health, education, the arts and more - and the leadership concepts are relevant to any environment. If you’re commercially minded and curious about creating broader impact, you’ll bring valuable perspectives as well as learning from others from different industries and sectors.
Q: Will my organisation support the time and cost involved?
A: Many employers do, once they understand the value. Participants return with stronger adaptive leadership skills, broader networks, and the ability to lead through uncertainty with greater confidence, resulting in more effective teams. If you’d like support making the case to your manager, we’re happy to help.
