Old friends caught up, new friends were made and there was a buzz of excitement in the air this week at LV’s annual presentation dinner.

LV’s graduates, Alumni, business partners and friends gathered in the sumptuous Savoy Ballroom to enjoy a three course meal from our new venue partners, the Grand Hyatt Melbourne.

Former ABC broadcaster Tonya Roberts (WCLP ’03) was the evening’s MC  and guided proceedings with humour and grace. She got people thinking and talking – in  140 characters or less – by introducing a Twitter competition, with the best Tweets of the night to win a copy of The Age’s Good Food Guide.

As conversation flowed and guests tucked into entrée, Tonya introduced LV’s Chair Garry Ringwood.  Garry’s short speech included the announcement that LV’s new Executive Director will be Richard Dent (WCLP ’04), news that was greeted with a hearty round of applause.  Richard is a LV Alumni and current CEO of the E W Tipping Foundation.  There was a general consensus that Richard will bring a great deal of wisdom and lots of fresh ideas to the organisation.

The night’s much anticipated keynote speaker was Simon McKeon, 2011 Australian of the Year. Simon is highly respected for his business skills and philanthropic work, and he spoke about the importance of cross sector partnerships in building a better Australia for all.  He also shared a moving story about his recent trip to visit indigenous communities in Central Australia. Please click here to view Simon’s speech.

Throughout the night guests enjoyed a series of thought provoking videos, showcasing some of LV’s work from throughout the year and our ongoing corporate partnerships.  The presentations were slick, colourful and illuminating, and were produced by our friends at Singing Bowl Media.

The last formal element of the evening was certificate presentations to the Experience Bank Leadership Program (EBLP) participants from 2010 and 2011, and this year’s Williamson Community Leadership Program (WCLP) participants. Randal Mathieson (EBLP ’11) and Sherilyn Hanson (EBLP ’10) spoke on behalf of the EBLP groups whilst Johnathan Darby (WCLP ’11) and Eloise Payne (WCLP ’11) shared their experiences of the WCLP.  Simon McKeon was on hand to congratulate all the graduates.

Finally, all that was left was to enjoy dessert and few more drinks, and to celebrate another successful year at LV.  All guests were given a copy of our 2011 Yearbook created by the talented designers at Marke, to take home – although many stayed on until the early hours of the morning.

The winners of the night’s Twitter competition are as follows:

@YBridgeProject: @LeadVic – leadership by example -key component of leadership -inspires others to get into it -wisdom from Simon

@AJPayne79: #leadvic Drive change. Go Holden.

@becerellalily: #leadvic : importance of business connecting with NFPs – Simon McKeon. Make it happen with purpose.
