Thirty people from new and emerging communities within the Bendigo region will have the chance to develop their leadership skills through the New and Emerging Communities Leadership Program (NECLP), commencing May 2015.

The program provides an outstanding opportunity for people from new and emerging communities to develop their leadership skills so they can contribute to community development. Topics covered will range from how to communicate with authenticity, breaking down cultural barriers within the community and how to create effective networks.

Sessions will be delivered by a range of guest speakers including local business and community leaders.

Abhishek Awasthi, Board Chair, Community Leadership Loddon Murray and member of the Bendigo NECLP working group, says the program will give participants an invaluable opportunity to develop their skills so they can strengthen their local community.

“There are no pre-requisites for this program and you do not need to currently be in a leadership position to apply. The program aims to give people from new and emerging communities, who are interested in making a positive difference in the community, the opportunity to grow their leadership potential”.

Each participant will be paired with a mentor to enhance their learning experience and provide one-on-one support.

Leadership Victoria will be taking applications in person at the Bendigo Festival of Cultures, Sunday 22 March, or online from now until Tuesday 24 March. Selection will be by interview.

This new program, funded by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, will be delivered by Leadership Victoria in collaboration with Community Leadership Loddon Murray and with assistance from local organisations including: Bendigo Community Health, City of Greater Bendigo, Keech (engineering), La Trobe University, Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services, Rural Finance and Women's Health Loddon Mallee.
