Igniting Leadership Program: Focus on Food

23 January 2012 By Leadership Victoria

The Igniting Leadership Program is an intensive program that fosters the next generation of leaders. An ideal introduction to the leadership landscape, Igniting Leadership spans five full days over four weeks.

This program is run by Leadership Victoria (LV), one of Australia’s pre-eminent leadership organisations. Whatever your individual leadership goals and challenges, Igniting Leadership will broaden your understanding of leadership and develop your leadership skills. Step outside the walls of your workplace and discover a broader, richer view of leadership – as practised personally and professionally, and across multiple sectors and generations.

This expansive outlook is reflected in every aspect of the program. Igniting Leadership blends an inspiring mix of seminars, scenario-based learning, guest speakers, reflection sessions and other activities. Many of the practical insights can be immediately applied to your workplace, while theoretical insights give you frameworks for your future leadership. You will examine your own personal competencies and skills, while also learning technical aspects of leadership by studying a range of leadership strategies and models. And, like all of LV’s programs, Igniting Leadership is cross-sectoral in focus, so you learn from the broadest possible range of leadership experiences.

If you’re on the cusp of something big, let Igniting Leadership lead you to something bigger.

The ‘Focus on Food’ leadership program is an exciting new initiative that has been developed between LV and Foodbank Victoria. Specifically tailored to the food sector and its stakeholders, ‘Focus on Food’ is based on LV’s successful Igniting Leadership Program and is designed to develop high-potential leaders through a concentrated learning experience.

  • Leadership Dissected – examining the qualities and traits needed for successful leadership in the food sector
  • Values – what they are and how they are shaped. Explore your individual values and consider their impact on your leadership style and performance
  • Networking – understanding the value of cross sectorial networking opportunities for the food sector. Encouraging collaboration and partnership opportunities
  • Food security – gain an overview of the ethics and equity issues and their impact on leadership necessary for the food sector

Program: The Igniting Leadership program is an off-site, non-residential, five day course that is run over the period of a month.  The dates for Igniting Leadership: Focus on Food are:

1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th, 22nd March 2012

The course is designed to take participants on a journey of leadership – to better understand their own styles, their challenges and how to deal with them in the context of the food industry and the broader community.

Program Outline

Day One has participants focusing on understanding themselves, what motivates them and developing an action plan for challenges in the workplace

Day Two looks at leadership qualities, the issues of ethics and how they apply to the food sector

Day Three works on the issues of change – what are the drivers and dynamics of change and how, as leaders, it is important to shape culture, understand the idea of emotional intelligence and coaching.

Day Four has participants look at the linkages between strategy, execution and employee engagement from a Systems Perspective – focusing on the challenges facing the food industry

Day Five examines how to communicate as a leader – both up and down the organisation as well as understanding the value of networking.  The program concludes with participants reviewing major learnings and developing their own Leadership Commitment.
