Victorian Bushfire Recovery
Leadership in a Time of Recovery.
In partnership with the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority (VBRRA), Leadership Victoria’s Alumni are assisting in Victoria’s recovery from the bushfires of 2009.
The 2009 Victorian bushfires are Australia’s worst natural disaster. Breaking out on Saturday 7 February, the fires destroyed 2173 properties and damaged around 430,000 hectares of land. One-hundred and seventy-three people lost their lives and many others were seriously injured.
In conjunction with VBRRA, our Alumni have developed the Building Support initiative as part of the bushfire recovery program. Via this initiative, a group of our Alumni are:
- guiding affected individuals and families in the process of rebuilding their homes
- helping to re-establish newly-constructed community assets, such as sporting and recreation facilities, within the community.
This is the first of a range of Leadership Victoria/VBRRA bushfire recovery initiatives. Via our partnership with VBRRA, our Alumni are contributing to the largest recovery program that Victoria has faced.
