Projects
The innovative thought of our Leadership Development Programs culminate in our projects. Through these projects, our Alumni exercise their exceptional leadership and engage with the community in a way that has a positive and enduring impact.
Here you’ll find projects calling for volunteers, a space for employees to advertise voluntary positions and case studies detailing previous projects.
What is SkillsBank?
SkillsBank is one program in a suite of projects that aim to drive change. SkillsBank and other projects deploy Leadership Victoria Alumni to address emerging issues that call for exceptional leadership.
For over 15 years, the SkillsBank program has brokered placements of Leadership Victoria Alumni in response to thousands of requests from not-for-profit organizations. The network of over 1,000 Alumni includes some of the Australia’s best and brightest leaders. The participating Alumni carry out their placements on a pro bono basis, and yet the true value of tapping into the ‘bank’ of Alumni extends far beyond cost savings. Host organisations draw on leadership expertise not otherwise available to them – expertise that adds considerable value by building their organisation’s long-term capacity. In turn, Alumni are enriched both professionally and personally by extending their leadership practice into new contexts.
SkillsBank engages Alumni in a range of activities to support leadership within not-for-profit organisations. This includes:
- Board placement
- Mentoring
- Assistance with particular projects or strategic directions
Guidelines for SkillsBank Applicants
SkillsBank placements are:
- Leadership-focused: Examples of placement activities include running a leadership workshop for the senior staff of an organization, working on a project that aims to foster the emerging leaders in an associated community and serving as a member of a Board
- Focused on the long-term: Each placement emphasizes long-term benefits for the community organization. These benefits might be realized, for example, by transferring knowledge, engendering a change in an organization’s future practice of leadership or working on strategic activities.
SkillsBank creates a collaborative, stimulating and inspiring experience for Leadership Victoria Alumni and provides host organizations with a leading edge.
Preference is given to applications that:
- Demonstrably add value to an organization and to the Victorian community
- Contributes to the leadership development of Alumni
SkillsBank projects aim to facilitate and support organizational capacity building. The ideal SkillsBank placement woks on an immediate and identifiable issue for an organization and in the process transfers skills, knowledge and contacts from our Alumni, so that the organization is in a stronger position to take on similar projects or issues in the future. Leadership Victoria Alumni engage with community organizations on a pro bono basis. The purpose of their involvement is to support and strengthen the capacities of its staff or members, rather than to undertake hands-on or operational work themselves.
